For parents and caregivers that are caring for/raising autistic children/teens/young adults: how are you dealing with how you thought your life would be like versus what it’s like now. When I talk to others my age or even other moms my age, they’re sending their kids off to college this fall or making plans as empty nesters. I’m not jealous but I just thought that we’d be further down the road so to speak than we are now. It’s a hard pill to swallow. I struggle with what basics can I teach him so he may be slightly prepared to live on his own someday or survive in 30 years when we’re no longer here. How can we support one another so we can help raise our autistic loved ones the best way possible.
