Parenting tip from some dude on the internet that isn’t a parent: judgement is never EVER going to get you anywhere with your kid. Meet them with open curiosity. Judgement will cause your kid to close up and hide things. ‼️Nonintrusive‼️ curiosity encourages them to tell you things. Show interest, try to understand, ask questions, ‼️without the perspective of judgement‼️ Judgement and curiosity are perspectives that you can control. If you feel the urge to judge, take a step back, breathe, look at their behavior, interest, feelings, identity, what have you, and find a bridge of common ground. Find something about what they’re doing that you understand, and use that as your way into their mind. Curiosity is connection.
