Looking for help. I have a 16yr old son with ASD1, he loves to play baseball, and he's quite good. He has no filter in his speech though, so everything he thinks, he says out loud, and he tends to lean toward a rather negative focus. This combination has resulted in him effectively narrating his every pitch and every play, talking the ears off of everyone he plays with, and often putting himself and his teammates down during the game. This estranges him from his teammates and makes it hard for the coaches to give him constructive criticism. My son has gone so far as to ask me if he can wear duct tape over his mouth while he's playing so he doesn't keep hurting his relationships on the field. He is in therapy, including CBT. He cannot chew gum or seeds on the field at his school. Does anyone have any recommendations for devices, maybe mouth guards or a "chewie" that stays in the mouth, or perhaps something else that might help?
