My 11 year old grandson was moved from the grammar school he attended for 5 years to another school that the IEP folks said he really needed to go to because it had a stronger special ed department that could give him the time and attention to prepare for middle school in the fall. They moved him in November and he wasn’t keen on leaving but cooperated. Now the last 4 weeks he has begged to go back to his old school has started scratching this arms and legs to bleed. Two week ago he said he wanted to stab himself in the liver so suicide crisis called in. Then last week two brief mornings at school and he just shut down and started hitting himself in the face. So now he is at home watch YouTube won’t discuss school attendance without getting extremely anxious. The school doesn’t seem to know what to do but they have called an emergency iep at our request. It feels they are Hoping we will just deal with his education with home schooling. . We just dont know what to do Home school with out his cooperation seems impossible. Im going through the accountabilities program And am wondering how much time might a major break might take for him to recover enough to be able to discuss and move forward The school seem adamant that he cannot return yo his old school for the next few months Any ideas? Suggestions?
