My HFA son was diagnosed last October (2024) and welcomed the diagnosis as he finally felt ‘seen’. Was working hard to do some unmasking and show himself at school. Unfortunately he was attacked during a lunch break and suffered a shattered jaw, broken nose and concussion. Now he has two metal plates and 8 screws in his jaw for the rest of his life. He has no memory of the actual violence, just remembers exiting the door, getting ready to shake hands, then coming to on the pavement. He has not returned to school. I don’t know how to get him back to school. I don’t want to push him, I know he has suffered a severe trauma but I think being around his friends could help him more that he knows. Does anyone have any advice on what might be helpful for him to return? He can get into the building but only lasts about an hour before he arrives back at home.
