I’m new here and hoping that maybe someone here can help me. I (53/M/High Functioning Autistic) have been with my wife (53/F/NT) for nearly 10 years and I’ve been encountering an issue with explaining *some* actions and reactions that I have to life in general. Admittedly, in some situations I have a poor demeanor or attitude on things, but when an autistic situation occurs (I.E. Major change in routines, loud noises, etc), if I try to explain my reaction as an autistic response, I am almost always told that it’s a “personality flaw” or that I’m an a$$hole. Being told this repeatedly is draining to me mentally. What is the best way to explain that not *everything* I say or do is because of my personality?
