Hello! Hoping to get some insight where to go from here. My son was diagnosed with ASD a little over a year ago. The clinic we did the evaluation recommended us a therapist who specializes in neuroscience and neurodivergent adolescents. We had worked with him starting February this year, once a week on zoom. Unfortunately we haven’t made much of a progress. He only talked to us about brain function and taught us about how my son’s brain is different which is GREAT but I felt like we need MORE! ( also the therapist wasn’t reliable, he would cancel many sessions so we haven’t had sessions continuously since June) My son is 16. Pretty much stuck in DEEP defense mode. Very overwhelmed after school, spending his afternoons on his phone, sometimes goes out with one friend. He is shut down, doesn’t want to talk, doesn’t want to do therapy saying it never helped him( which I get because we’ve been found from one to another for years without actually making a difference or getting help ). He has severe OCD, possibly some trauma from a divorce and his dad new marriage, he refuses to see his father for months now. He shuts everyone out and pretty much has no desire to do anything after a long day at school. He has sensory issues, diet and eating habits are horrible, along with sleeping. Takes 40 minute showers, uses a bottle of soap in 3-4 days. I had called some local therapist but I feel like my son’s struggles are So complex I don’t know who can help. We live in Utah. I even thought about a day treatment center where he gets access to more than just one therapist a week. Does anyone know of a good therapist who does online sessions and take insurance outside of Utah? I’m determined to find someone who can connect with my son who is such fun and bright and smart kid. Someone who can help with his OCD and work on his trauma and help him cope with life and anxiety in a healthy way. Any insight would be wonderful! Thank you!
