One of the many issues with my 16 year old son right now is that his sleep schedule is flipped. He doesn’t wake up until about 4:30pm, which is an improvement because it used to be 5:30pm. He goes to sleep anywhere between 6am and 9am. This has been ongoing for at least a year and a half. I’m having a lot of issues with the school district and having his iep followed, partly because no one wants to work with him outside of school hours. When he is awake, he’s on his computer gaming, coding, teaching himself new graphic design programs, etc. He first started teaching himself coding and programming when he was about 9 years old. He only talks to me and online friends. He shuts down when anyone else tries to talk to him. He also does not want to leave the house. He told me he has crippling anxiety- the not talking is selective mutism and he physically can’t talk, he has trouble falling asleep because he has constant thoughts, and sometimes he has trouble eating because anxiety makes him feel sick to his stomach. All of the suggestions I have been given do not work. None of the “experts” we’ve been sent to have a clue. I don’t want this to be too long, so I’m not adding all of the details. I’m just wondering if anyone has any insight on what I can do to help him shift his sleep schedule and be awake during the day and sleeping at night.
