Need some help getting a certain 15 almost 16 year old to connect the dots with medication usage. Namely, if we refuse to take our recommended medication and still complain of the original issue, it really puts the parents and doctors in a frustrating position. Due to this being a sick, we have had to pull out the nebulizer I got the medication for it. He also has the generic mucinex so this is not like we are not trying yo help last night he refused help from nebulizer help from dad. I had put it in his room with his new batch of medication on his bookshelf. He hadn't done it. Usually he only needs the inhaler if he has a certain degree of inflammation. We have other caugh medicine he can use. I heard him coughing this AM and suggested it and he said didn't know where it was. He also has a preventer inhaler that I get caught in the remind him I get snarled at and goes into defense mode fights and still might not take it, or let him forget he raises the risk of having asthma attacks. I need to connect the dots with him that if we take our preventer inhaler routinely, typically the level of sick is not nearly as severe. He sometimes listens to other people better than me. I have the same disease I understand the cough os umcomfortable. He has fought other meds to and again the only way to gain compliance was to remind him so we did tell him we are not being negligent, let go of the refusal and if he complains remind him he refused to take his medication and if he had taken it might have felt better. Once he figured that out with his other meds cooperation went up when he understood he was making himself sick. We need the same thing for the asthma preventer meds he fights taking. We need to help help him connect the dots that if he takes them coughs will be milder.
