I'm working through the Accountability Plan course, and my 18 yo son is concurrently taking the Breaking Free course. These have been very educational and helpful, though we are still having pretty major meltdowns on a regular basis. My son is very "behind" in his education (considering he should be a senior in high school, but reading at at 2nd or 3rd grade level, with math concepts being even worse), and I'm struggling with decisions about school that starts in just 3 weeks. Last year was terrible; he was enrolled as a high school freshman, but because I suspect he has been stuck in defense mode for several years, he has just not been able to advance in any of his school coursework and I feel like that is unlikely to change as the public schools are not challenging him to advance. I quit my job to help focus on him, with the goal of home-schooling this fall. But...aside from starting at a 2nd or 3rd grade level curriculum, I don't know where to start. Anyone else been through this and have good suggestions for where to find an age-appropriate curriculum that doesn't cost a fortune and is tailored to helping him get his GED (which he wants to achieve)?
