Hello! My son is 7, autistic, and non verbal. When we go to public spaces (especially grocery stores) he will not walk and starts to have a meltdown very quickly. I'm not sure how to support him. We've tried many sensory tools like hats, sunglasses, headphones, fidgets, etc. The most effective thing we've found is using a wagon or cart for him to sit in. This may seem like a silly question but should I just keep using wagons or invest in a wheel chair for his comfort? People act as though I'm coddling him and I sometimes second guess myself. I'm of the mind that he'll learn in time how to advocate for himself. Is there anything else I can do? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
