My relative (adult) has been obsessed (his word) with a neighbor (attractive woman in his age range) the last few months. I think meeting this person may have heightened his awareness of his intense loneliness. He does not have supportive parents (in fact, they are unsupportive) which perhaps increases his lonely feelings. He talks to me and one or two other older friends about it, we have the same conversations over and again, he tries some strategies that work very temporarily, but he feels miserable and cannot think of anything that will help him. He expresses wishes to die to get away from these intense feelings, but he is not suicidal thankfully. He likes the feelings he gets when he sees her, even though she shows no interest at all in talking with him or getting to know him. Yet, he still waits and hopes to bump into her and even watches out for her. He wishes he had never met her because of the strong feelings he gets either when he sees her (very happy) or when he doesn't see her (very sad). If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate your time. This is the only place where I have any hope that someone will understand what he is going through.
