Hello, my 9 year old ASD son has sleep apnea. It was suggested by his ENT specialist to have a tonsillectomy/adenoids removed. We have his surgery set up for August. He is going to children’s hospital in Milwaukee which is an hour and a half drive. Our worry is when to tell him he is getting surgery. It is nearly impossible to even get him to the doctor due to extreme fear of it. We were thinking of waiting to tell him closer to the date. He will be prescribed something to calm him prior to the appointment. My fear is if we tell him now it will cause him to fixate on getting this done as well as extreme anxiety leading up to the surgery. How do we go about telling him?
