Hi everyone. As a parent of a 19 year old with Asperger’s/Level 1 ASD, I feel sad that my son doesn’t have friends locally. He doesn’t feel as bad about as I do, however. Also, he has a fixated type of Asperger’s, as I understand it. And ADHD. His therapist doesn’t have expertise in this general cognition, to guide him through his challenges. I am looking to learn how to respond when he is very focused and persistent about something that relates to our household. I don’t want my son to feel like he needs to be fixed, but to be honest, I feel that way sometimes. I want him to be typical or less rigid often times. I take responsibility for my perspective and my own anxiety. I want to help him feel better about himself and gain more freedom in having a fuller life. More open and confident.
