My daughter is 20 and just received an autism diagnosis. She is in complete denial of her diagnosis. She was diagnosed with Specific Learning Disability when she was in first grade and accepts that diagnosis although she has always struggled with not wanting to be different than everyone else. Has anyone been where we are? How have you been able to help your child accept their autism diagnosis and embrace it, find their strengths and interests. It seems she has none. What worked for you? She is in full blown defense mode and I don’t know that she will overcome it until she accepts her diagnosis.
