I’m overwhelmed with the amount of non-stop talking my spectrum child (13) does. How do I set boundaries that he will understand while also meeting his needs? It is overwhelming because he is unable to read the cues my other children can (like if I’m reading something, they’ll just move on with their day but he’ll come up and without any context or warning begin talking about what his current interest is.) I’d love perspective from those on the spectrum or from parents who’ve found that delicate balance. I want him to know I’m always here and I’m interested in what he says, but practically since we homeschool, he sometimes talks at me all day long without a break unless I tell him he needs to give me a little space.
