II’m wondering how other parents of adults with ASD handing the topic of driving. My son is 28, he was given a drivers license about 2 years after high school. The driving instructor was clearly shaken when they came back saying that she would pass him, but only if he continued to practice. However his driving skills are extremely tentative and we live in a busy area with many awkward intersections for even an experienced driver. When it comes to talking with him about his first apartment, we’ve been stressing living in an area near public transportation to get to and from work as we feel that his driving is far too tentative. His co-workers constantly tell him that he needs to have a car otherwise he will never progress. My wife and I, on the other hand, see this as a disaster waiting to happen. I’m curious as to if other parents deal with driving issues with their adult offspring with ASD.
