My son (16) is really into name-calling within the family. He has a very sophisticated vocabulary and, for example, called his dad a "dolt" this morning. Anyway, it needs to stop. We've tried various approaches in the past, without success. We're planning to talk to him this afternoon and set out some basic consequences going forward: -If he calls a family member a name, he gets one chance to walk it back and apologize. -If he chooses not to, or does it again, he loses screen time for the remainder of the day. I'm worried that he'll become more dysregulated and blow it every time, or that he'll behave worse (throw things, etc). I'd love your thoughts on this approach. Am I missing anything?
