Growing up with not-so-great social skills, I figured out that conversations went a lot more smoothly if I just agreed with whatever the other person said. But as I've gotten older, it's become less effective and more of a problem. Even so, it's a deeply ingrained habit, and agreement comes out of my mouth before my brain has time to process what I actually might want to say. Part of the issue is that spoken conversations move so quickly, I find it terribly difficult to keep up. (The other part is my deep fear of saying the wrong thing, as my social skills still aren't up to snuff.)
