Hi, I just got diagnosed with ASD. I was in shock that I was born with Autism, but didn’t find out until my 40’s. I struggled with anxiety and depression, which is genetic; however, I didn’t know it was associated with autism. I’m applying for partial disability so that I can still get a job. This is my specialist’s recommendation. I’m having difficulty because you have to have a diagnosis prior to 18 in order to qualify. However, I didn’t get diagnosed until now, and there are many adults out there like me. Hence, the term adult autism spectrum disorder has become main stream, even though we were born with an autistic brain. So, how do you go about getting proper help even though you weren’t diagnosed as a kid? It seems really unfair.
