We have a 30 year old son, Dylan. Diagnosed with Asperger’s around the age of 4. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering- because of his anxiety and inexperience in his field ( he didn’t do an internship) he hasn’t been able to get a job in his career field. He has been working at Walmart for 2 1/2 years, and has managed to work full time until about a year ago he started having panic attacks and almost fainting or passing out. They put him on a very part time schedule 6pm to 11pm 3 days a week. He is almost non functional and fatigued all the time- he calls in sick almost everyday he is scheduled- he says he is too tired and fatigue to make it to work. We don’t know what else to do to help him- we have started the accountability plan, and it makes so much sense - so we are changing our parenting to hopefully help get him out of defense mode. We are not sure if we should keep encouraging him to go to work at Walmart every day , or if it’s making him worse. It is so hard seeing that he has so much potential in a productive happy life and he just can’t seem to get past this hurdle.
