My granddaughter, 15 years old, was diagnosed with ASD when she was 12. In the last month or so she is having trouble brushing her teeth. She says when the toothpaste gets on her tongue she cannot stand it and has to start spitting and feels like she has to spit for several minutes. Needless to say, this does not make her want to brush. I've suggested making sure her toothbrush/toothpaste is wet when she starts and brushing with water when she is finished. This isn't helping. I know this isn't the most serious problem there is to deal with but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
